Creating a search template
You create a search template to define a view such as the attributes of an item to display on the rich search page.
About this task
The purpose of a having a Saved search template
is to build a
pre-populated reusable search criteria so that you do not need to repeatedly keep doing that
task. If needed, such templates can also be shared with other users for reference. Though the
reusable criteria are in the read-only mode, you can modify the values to run the search on
varied data that is required according to your requirements.
- Sharing a search template
- A search template can be private to the creator or can be shared with all of the users of the company in which the search template is defined.
- Working with the default search template
- There is one default search template per container (a catalog, a hierarchy, or a workflow step). When a user starts Rich Search on the container with the default search template defined, the information that is encapsulated in the default search template is used in initializing the content to be rendered in the simple search user interface screen.
- Defining an effective default search template on a container
- A private default search template is a default search template that is defined by a user and the template is not shared with any other user in the company. Each user can have at most one private default search template for a container.
Procedure
- In the left panel, select the Search tab. You can right-click New Search and select Item Search or Category Search.
- For item search, specify the catalog to search in the Search in Catalog field. For category search, specify the catalog to search in the Search in Catalog field.
- In the Search within Categories (applicable only to item search) and Search Attributes sections, specify your search criteria.
- In the Search Options section, select the search scope, attribute to sort on, and save type specifying whether the results should be saved as dynamic selection or static selection. Click Save.
-
Specify a name for the search and whether this should be saved as a template or as a saved
search, and click OK.
A saved search saves both the fields searched and the parameters. A search template saves the fields searched but allows the option whether the parameters are to be saved.
