Categorizing an item

You can map one or more items into one or more categories. This category mapping enables you to group related items together. You can categorize an item using Single Edit, where you add one item to multiple categories, or Multi Edit, where you can add multiple items to multiple categories.

Before you begin

Ensure that you already have an item created.

Procedure

Categorize an item. Based on your settings choices, you have the following options available:
Option Description
Single edit
  1. Select an item in the left pane navigation. The Single edit screen displays.
  2. Click the Categories tab.
  3. Choose the hierarchy in which to find categories to map to using the Hierarchy dropdown.
  4. Browse to the category to map to using the hierarchy tree displayed. Double click on the category to map to. Alternatively, click on the category to map to and click on Add Category.
  5. Alternatively, search for the category that you want to map the items to using the Search section. Double click on the category to map to. Alternatively, click on the category to map to and click on Add Category.
  6. Alternatively, choose the category to map to from the dropdown in “Add Categories to Item” section.
  7. Click OK to save your mapping. The saved mapping is then captured in the Multi edit screen.
  8. Click Save > Save all modified. To view your changes in the left pane navigation, refresh the left pane navigation. The mapped items display under the categories.
  9. Click Save to save everything in the Attributes and Categories tabs. The mapping displays in the Mapped categories box.
Multi edit
  1. Click the link next to the category that lists the number of items that are associated with that category. The Multi Edit screen displays.
  2. Select one or more items that you want to map to one or more categories, and click Categorize. The Category Mapping pop-up displays.
  3. Choose the hierarchy in which to find categories to map to using the Hierarchy dropdown.
  4. Browse to the category to map to using the hierarchy tree displayed. Double click on the category to map to. Alternatively, click on the category to map to and click on Add Category.
  5. Alternatively, search for the category that you want to map the items to using the Search section. Double click on the category to map to. Alternatively,click on the category to map to and click on Add Category.
  6. Search on one or more categories that you want to map the items to, and click Add Category. The mapping is displayed in the Add Categories to Item box.
  7. Click OK to save your mapping. The saved mapping is then captured in the Multi edit screen.
  8. Click Save > Save all modified. To view your changes in the left pane navigation, refresh the left pane navigation. The mapped items display under the categories.
