Import Environment

Use the Import Company Environment pane to import an entire instance of a IBM® Product Master. This tool addresses the content modeling administration needs of the IBM Product Master production environment.

The environment import feature is designed to port the data from one instance to another instance. No validation is performed during importing data to the system. You need to validate the data in the environment package before importing it. For example, for a unique attribute that is defined in a spec, the package that is created by using the IBM Product Master user interface application performs the validation at the application level before the environment is exported. You need to ensure the attribute values in the .csv files are unique if modified manually.

When using the environment import to import items or categories with primary keys of type "sequence", the values of the system-generated sequences will not automatically be chronologically incremented. For example, it is possible that after you import an item with the primary key of "64388" through the environment import, you create a new item, which might get a primary key with a value below this number; for example, "4755" for instance.

To import an environment, browse for a file that contains the instance of the data model, and click Import. The application uploads the file to the Document Store and schedules the importing activity. The import process, when run, results in the creation of a new data model that replicates the instance of model that is stored in the imported file.
Restriction: Do not use the default company "trigo" in your product environment. For instance, not all the scripts might get loaded into the document store if company "trigo" is used.
Note: The file system that is used by Linux®, AIX®, Solaris, and HP-UX systems limit the size of files to 2 GB. To ensure a successful import of your compressed file, split the import data based on the size of your metadata and data into files less than 2 GB.
Important: If catalog or lookup items with a primary key in the CSV file exist on an instance, its corresponding attribute values can be modified.
