Administering database

You must set up and maintain a database to store all of the Product Master data. You can use an Oracle database or a IBM® DB2® database, which you generally set up on a separate server.

The performance and reliability of Product Master is highly dependent on a well-managed database. All the data that you enter in the system is stored in the underlying database, therefore it is critical to ensure optimal database performance and availability. You can optimize the database server by configuring the database lock wait, buffer pool, and memory parameters to meet the system performance requirements.

Database server performance checklist

Use the database server performance checklist to resolve common issues with your database.
The following list identifies possible resolutions that can help you to identify the source of your performance database issues:
  • Ensure that the server where the database is installed has the appropriate capacity to handle the load and is not shared with other systems.
  • Check and make sure that the database statistics are up to date.
  • Check memory allocation to make sure that there are no unnecessary disk reads.
  • Check to see whether the database needs defragmentation.
