Screens for editing objects
You can view or modify objects, such as items and categories with a content authoring screen.
- Item and Category Detail screens
- You use the Item and Category Detail screen to view, edit, create an item or category, and add attribute values. The Item Detail screen displays when you are working with an item. The Category Detail screen displays when you are working with a category. You can select an item or category from the catalog or hierarchy modules in the left pane, collaboration area console, or Worklist UI to access one of these screens.
- Single Edit screen
- Business users can navigate to the Single Edit screen in several ways:
- Select an item or category on the left navigation pane
- This will launch the single edit screen.
- Search for an item or category and the search returns in a single object
- This will launch the single edit screen.
- Search for an item or category and select it from a list of search results in the multi-edit results page and click "Open"
- This will launch the Single Edit pop-up screen. This is applicable only to the new UI, single, and multi-edit with rich search simplified.
- Select an item in a multi-edit page and click "Open"
- This will launch the Single Edit pop-up screen. This is applicable only to the new UI, single, and multi-edit with rich search simplified.

- This button, if visible, lists the additional available functions that you can choose from. This is applicable to all four types of screens of the new UI, single edit, multi edit, workflow single edit, and workflow multi edit.
You use the Single Edit screen to edit a single object. This screen displays a single object that you can view or edit. The icon in the top section provides the status of the object. For example, if the object is in sync with the database, a green icon is displayed. If an error has occurred, a red icon is displayed.
When you use the Single Edit screen, you can directly edit values within text, date, and URL type fields without the use of pop-up editors in the new UI.
When you select a single object from the left pane toolbar, that object displays in a Single Edit screen. When you select multiple objects, those objects display in a Multiple Edit screen. You can edit objects and to navigate through the list of objects in both screens.
- Multiple Edit screen

Business users can navigate to the Multiple Edit screen in several ways:
- Select the “View X items” or "View X categories" link on the left navigation panel
- This will launch the Multiple Edit screen.
- Search for items or categories that return more than one object
- This will launch the Multiple Edit pop-up screen.

- This button, if visible, lists the additional available functions that you can choose from.
You use the Multiple Edit screen to edit multiple objects at the same time. You can also keep track of objects that you have previously visited in this screen.
Note: In the Multiple Edit screen,- You can clear the previously selected items by clicking the Deselect All check box. However, there is no Select All feature available currently.
- You must use the background mode when you generate reports for catalogs with many items. To use the background mode, select the Submit as a background job option when you click Generate Report.
- For range selection, to ensure best performance before performing any operation on the browser, first let the item load completely and work with limited items.
Important: Wait for items to load completely before you perform any action on multi-edit screen.For every item that you click in the Multiple Edit panel, the item details display in the Single Edit panel and you must click the Multiple Edit panel tab at the top of the panel to return to your search results. To highlight and track the items that you have visited in the Multiple Edit panel, you can set the track_visited_entries parameter value to true. After you select an object from your search results, that object is saved in your browser history.
- Workflow Single Edit screen
- You can view and edit an item or category in a workflow step in the Workflow Single Edit screen.
Only the attributes that were defined as accessible in the workflow step definition are displayed in
the Workflow Single Edit screen.Business users can navigate to the Workflow Single Edit screen in several ways:
- Select an item or category on the left navigation pane in a step in the collaboration area left navigation module.
- This will launch the single edit screen.
- Search for an item or category in a step of a collaboration area and the search returns in a single object
- This will launch the single edit screen.
- Search for an item or category in a step of a collaboration area and select it from a list of search results in the multi-edit results page and click "Open"
- This will launch the single edit pop-up screen.
- Select an item or category in a multi-edit page for a collaboration step and click "Open"
- This will launch the single edit pop-up screen.
- Select an item or category in the worklist page for a collaboration step and click "Open"
- This will launch the single edit screen.
Note: In the Single Edit screen, any entered comments are cleared after they are successfully applied by a Reserve or Release action. This prevents the same comments from being applied to subsequent actions unintentionally. - Workflow Multi Edit screen
- You can view and edit multiple items or categories in a workflow step in the Workflow Multi Edit
screen. Only the attributes that were defined as accessible in the workflow step definition are
displayed in the Workflow Multi Edit screen.
Business users can navigate to the Workflow Multiple Edit screen in several ways:
- Click a collaboration step in the collaboration area console
- This will launch the multiple edit screen.
- Search for items or categories in a step of a collaboration area that returns more than one object
- This will launch the multiple edit screen.
- Select multiple items or categories in the worklist page for a collaboration step and click "Open"
- This will launch the single edit screen.
