Redo log switch problems

I have never received this error before. Why am I getting this error and how can I fix it?

Symptoms

An inadequate number of log files or an inadequate size of the log files can cause the database system to wait a long time for a log switch and to determine whether all the redo log files are active.

Resolving the problem

Increase the number of log files.
Increase the size of the redo log files.
