Viewing log files

You can view your log files from the user interface, the log file directory, or with the Log and Trace Analyzer (LTA).

Before you begin

Before you access your log files with the LTA, you must download and install the IBM® Support Assistant and enable the LTA plug-in.

Procedure

View the log files. Use one of the following methods to view the log files: user interface, text editor, or LTA.
Option Description
User interface
  1. Click System Administrator > Log Files. The Log Directory Listing pane appears.
  2. Select log files that you want to view.
  3. In the Log Directory Listing pane, select any of the following, and click Submit.
    • Select the Entire Log File checkbox to view the entire file.
    • Specify the maximum number of lines that you want to view in the text field.
Text editor
  1. Browse to the logs directory.
     Admin UI 
    All log files are in the $TOP/logs directory.
     Persona-based UI 
    The installer logs are in the $TOP_MDMUI/logs directory and the log files for services are in the $TOP_MDMUI/logs/service_name directory.
  2. Open the appropriate file directory to locate the log file that you want to view.
  3. Use any text editor to open and view your log files.
