Restricting editing of all attributes in the [System Default] view

Customized catalog views are created to limit editing or accessing attribute values of an item, however, you can still switch the view to [System Default] in the Catalog Console screen, which makes all the attributes within an item editable. Although, there is a way to prevent a user from being able to edit all the attributes of an item.

About this task

The View drop-down in the top-right corner of the Catalog Console screen of the application is designed to display all the views. However, this catalog view drop-down is not associated with any role or ACG (access control group), so a business user can edit all the attributes of an item by choosing [System Default] as the view.

Although there is no way to suppress the [System Default] view, you can restrict edit access of the items in this default view.

Procedure

  1. Select Product Manager > Catalogs > Catalog Console.
  2. Choose the catalog that you want to work on.
  3. After choosing the catalog, click Attrs from the panel at the top.
  4. Change User Defined Core Attribute Collection to None.

Results

Now, only the primary key of the item is seen and is editable; all other attributes are not shown and therefore cannot be edited.
