Event log

To analyze a process-mining process you must upload a data source, which is a log file. You can upload files with the following formats:

  • .CSV
  • .XES
  • .ZIP
  • .GZ

Name the data source file to adhere to the UTF-8 standards. If you are uploading a .zip file, then name all the files in the .zip file to adhere to the UTF-8 standards.

IBM Process Mining prevents you from uploading a log file or data source that has different headers from existing data sources.

You can include a new log file with more columns than the previous logs if the existing headers remain unchanged. For example, it is possible to add new columns, but they must follow the colums at the end of the file. However, you cannot include a new log file with fewer columns than the previous logs, even if the existing headers remain unchanged.

Managing a data source

In the Data source section, you can upload your own data source file, a data source file from simulation, or a data source file from cloud storage.

You can repeat the process to import other data sources that are obtained through simulation.

When you want to include the data source in the project, turn on the Included toggle.

Uploading a data source

To upload a data source, Drag and drop file here or click to upload or Upload file.

If the format and structure of the newly added data source comply with the existing data source, it is uploaded to IBM Process Mining.

Getting data source from simulation

To select a data source from the simulated data, do the following steps:

  1. Expand the Upload file overflow menu and select Get from simulation.
  2. In the Import from simulation dialog box, select the simulation that you want to use.
  3. Import the selected data source.

Uploading a file from a cloud storage

To learn how to upload a file from cloud storage, go to Uploading files from a cloud storage.

Mapping the data

You can use the following steps to map the data:

  1. Click Edit data mapping to go to the Map your data step in the Create a process-mining project wizard.

  2. Map the data with the appropriate columns headings, and then click Next.

It is mandatory to map the required columns headings, Process ID, Activity, and Start time. For more information on data mapping, see Create a process-mining project.

  3. You can use the same time format for all dates or select the required time format in the Start Timestamp list.

  4. Save the changes.

Visualizing the data source

After you complete the data-mapping process, visualize the process with the new updates.

To visualize the process, in the Data source section, click Visualize.

You can see the updated process model in the Model tab.
