Process model

You can use the process area of the Model tab analyze your process by navigating through the activities, relationships between them, and identifying the most frequent paths.

Analyzing the process flow of the selected project

The process model, which is displayed in the Model page, shows the flow of a process. You can adjust it by configuring the view options, filters, and case or process variants.

The following table describes the elements of a process model:

UI element Meaning
A darker blue color A more frequent activity
Bold arrows The most frequent transitions between events
Numbers next to the lines The number of times the specific process transition occurs
Boxes Activities in the process
Text in a box The name of the activity and the role performing the activity
Multiple dots Multiple roles are involved in completing the activity
Number in a box The number of times the activity is conducted
A circle in the corner Model coverage

Hover over the circle to view the model coverage value. Model coverage indicates the number of possible relationships that are visualized in the process model. The level of relations is adjustable.

Analyzing an activity in the process model

Select an activity in the process area to use the following options from a menu that appears:

Show activity statistics
You can view the statistics of a chosen activity. You can view details for cases filtered by activity, process, resource, or role. For more information, see Viewing the details of an activity.

Show activity relationships
You can view the activity relationship for various view modes. For more information, see View the activity relationship.

Included cases with this activity
You can add a filter to the process model that includes the cases that are related to the selected activity.

Included cases with reworks on this activity
You can add a filter to the process model that includes reworked cases of the selected activity. For more information, see Included cases with reworks on this activity.

Viewing the details of an activity

The Activity statistics window shows the aggregated statistics that are related to the selected activity. For example, you can identify the resources and roles that are involved and the average lead time of the activity.

The visible statistics are for attributes with a cardinality smaller than the threshold. To set this threshold go to Data & Settings > Data > Attributes page.

To see all values of the attribute, select the attribute from the View details for cases by list and click Compute statistics.

Viewing the activity relationships

To see the activity relationships in a table, click an activity whose relationship you want to view.

In the Activity relationships list, you select one of the following options:

  • Select Predecessors to display all incoming relationships of the selected activity.
  • Select Successors to display all the outgoing relationships of the selected activity.

To arrange the data in ascending or descending order, click the corresponding column heading in the table.
The table can be sorted by the activity, the number of transitions, avarage transition time, and median transition time.

Using the included cases with reworks on this activity option

You can use the Included cases with reworks on this activity button to display the activities that required rework.

For some activities, there is an arrow that begins and ends at the same activity. Such self-loop instances occur when an activity is repeated multiple times but passes other activities.

At some instances, you might also note an arrow that begins and ends at the same activity. Such instances are called self-loop and it occurs when, for the same case, the activity is repeated multiple times but passes other activities, thus causing a rework.
