Project configuration
You can use the Project configuration page to edit project details, configure tasks, and manage business activities in the Task Mining project.
Ensure that both the IBM Task Mining project and the IBM Process Mining projects are owned by the same user. If the project is owned by a different user, use the Administration tab in IBM Process Mining to change the ownership of the project. For more information about changing ownership, see the Projects and components tab topic.
You can use the pen icon to view the information related to the project that was selected during the creation.
The user can view all the tasks and contextual data that they have previously classified in the page task classification and contextual data classification, and decide whether to associate them with the IBM Task Mining project.

See the following table to understand more about the Task selection page.
Element Number | Element Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Filter table | Allows you to filter by a specific word or table option |
2 | Table filters | Section to filter by application, filter by page, and filter by specific words |
3 | Page navigation | Section to select the page of the task classification table to view |
4 | Items per page | Section to select the number of items shown in the task classification table in a page, as well as the total number of items |
To manage the tasks grouped by business activity, click the Manage business activities button to open the Manage business activities pop-up window.
The business activities can be populated by either recovering them from an existing process hosted in IBM Process Mining or, in the case of standalone analysis, by creating new business activities directly in the management pop-up.
Recovering business activities from an existing process
To recover business activities from an existing process, do the following steps:
- In the Task selection table, select all the tasks that will be associated with the new business activity with the square checkbox.
- Open the Assign to business activity window. All your selected business activities are listed there.
- Choose a Business activity from the drop-down list.
- Click the Assign button.
Creating new business activities
To create new business activities, you can use the Manage business activities pop-up window.
- In the Task selection table, click the Manage business activities button to open the Manage business activities pop-up.
- Under Business activity, add the business activity name in the textbox and click the plus.
Unlinking business activities from a project
To remove business activities from a working project perform the following steps:
- In the Task selection table, select all the tasks to be unlinked from the project table with the square checkbox.
- Click on the Unlink from business activity button.
Define the start and end task for each business activity by inserting a flag in the box of the desired task when the tasks are associated with the business activities
After completing the task configuration, you can either select the contextual data that you want to associate with the project before publishing the project or directly proceed to publish the project. When you select a Process ID from the contextual data, the system uses the selected data as the unique Process ID for the remaining process. When you publish the project without selecting the contextual data, the system creates a numeric case id as the Process ID.
After you complete the configuration of the project, click the Publish button to publish the current version of the project.
Change the following settings in the Publish project pop-up window:
- Apply for historic data set
- "No, apply only on new data" (Default): The TM Agent applies the new published rules only on new recorded chunks.
- "Yes, analyze from scratch" (Toggled-On): The processor and miner reprocess all the chunks (recorded from the beginning) with the new published classification rules. This operation can take hours to complete.
- Acquisition mode
- Full (Default): You can select Full to publish both metadata and screen captures along with the obfuscated or anonymised data from TM Agent to IBM Process Mining.
- Metadata-Only (Toggled-On): You can select Metadata-Only to publish only the unclassified metadata from TM Agent to IBM Process Mining.
Screen-captures take up space in the filesystem, especially at high resolutions.
In IBM Process Mining, for each business activity created or recovered from an already existing process, a process is created with the name "Task Mining: Business activity name". All the tasks associated with the business activity on this page are reported in this process.
If the IBM Task Mining project and the IBM Process Mining process are not owned by the same user, the publishing fails and an error is displayed. To change ownership of the process, use the Administration menu in IBM Process Mining. For more information, see the Projects and components tab topic.
The project configuration can be changed. You must republish the project once the change is made.
If you want to apply the change also to the registrations that are already created, select the "Apply to historic data set" option to execute an analysis from scratch:
Starting from release 1.12.0.4, you can download and import a project configuration.
