Comparing activities using simulation
Using simulation, you can compare the activities in the process to verify the percentage of possible automation. You can also use this procedure to create an RPA bot if the process includes activities derived from IBM Task Mining.
You must ensure to complete the prerequisite steps before creating a simulation. For more information on the prerequisite steps, see Prerequisites.
Note: As a prerequisite, you must set values for the following parameters:
- The number of instances as you need to use the values to run simulation.
- The number of automation instances if the process includes activities that are derived from IBM Task Mining. This value is used when generating an RPA bot from the Compare page or Automate page.
You can use the following steps to view data in the Compare page:
-
In the BPMN page of IBM Process Mining, click Create Simulation.
-
In the Create simulation dialog box, perform the following actions:
a. Click New simulation to add a new simulation.
b. Click Existing simulation to add an existing simulation.
c. In the Simulation title box, type a title for simulation, and then click Create simulation.
Notes:
- If you are adding a simulation for the first time, then IBM Process Mining does not display the option buttons New simulation and Existing simulation.
- In the Description box, you can opt to type a description for the simulation. However, it is not a mandatory step.
-
The BPA page appears and it displays the Simulation settings and lists various activities of the process.
-
In the Activities section of the BPA page, click RPA corresponding to the activity or activities that you want to compare, and then increase the value for Robotic quote box.
Note: The value in the Robotic quote box indicates the percentage of activity that you want to automate.
-
In the BPA page, click Run simulation.
-
In the message box, click Yes to run the simulation.
-
The Compare page now displays the data for the following categories:
- Generated RPA project
- Simulation details
- Custom metric statistics
- Case duration and count
- Activity duration
- Derived data
-
In the Simulation details section, click Edit scenario to go to the BPA page, edit the values, and rerun the simulation.
-
Click Import simulated data to visualize the derived data in the Model page.
Note:
- The Generated RPA project section is visible only if the process includes activities that are derived from IBM Task Mining. For more information on generating a bot through the Compare page, see Generating an RPA bot.
