CPU soft lockup messages appear on the console or in dmesg output

CPU soft lockup messages are seen on the virtual machine console or dmesg output.

Problem

The host might be running low on free CPU resources or it is a Linux® kernel bug.

When host is too busy, it might not be able to schedule CPU resources for guest virtual machines.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Verify that the host has enough free CPU resources. It is a recommended to keep 20% of the CPU resources free, in case of spikes in utilization.
Verify that you have the latest versions of the operating system installed on the host and guest virtual machines, and install any available fix packs.
