Remote restart with standby host
If a standby host is available during automated remote restart process, the standby host is selected to move all the virtual machines from the source host. No other new virtual machine deployment is allowed on the standby host until the evacuation process is complete.
Remote restart can be triggered automatically or manually. The automated remote restart occurs
during the host failure. The manual remote restart is of the following two types:
- If no virtual machines are selected, the remote restart happens at the host level. Also, if a standby host is available, automated remote restart is triggered on the standby host.
- If specific virtual machines are selected one after the other or all together, the remote restart occurs at the virtual machine level. This remote restart follows the standard method and does not use the automated remote restart. In this process, the remote restart chooses the standby host only when there is no capacity on other hosts. Since this process of manual restart is a user-initiated action, you can choose to manage the standby host manually if required.
