Block storage (cinder) APIs

These APIs and extensions are used to manage the lifecycle and operations of storage resources.

Supported OpenStack block storage (Cinder) APIs
These OpenStack block storage APIs are supported in PowerVC.
Additional metrics
Storage providers APIs provide additional metrics and state information for PowerVC registered storage subsystems.
Backup node registration
The backup node registration APIs allow you to register a remote or a local backup node in PowerVC. You can also choose to discover existing image OVAs.
Bulk volume create API
The bulk volume create API creates bulk volumes.
Get bulk volume API
The Get bulk volume API lists multiple volumes that are created on PowerVC with a single request. The Get bulk volume API provides multiple filter options to fetch the volumes.
Bulk volume delete API
The bulk volume delete API lets you delete bulk volumes.
Clone volume API
The clone volume API lets you create a consistent copy of volumes that are available or attached to a virtual machine.
Snapshot capacity usage API
The snapshot capacity usage API gets the snapshot capacity usage for all volume snapshot for a given project or across all projects. The API is supported for the IBM FlashSystem Storwize® only.
Export or import image
The image export or import APIs let you export or import images from a backup node registered in PowerVC. You can also choose whether you want to upload an image to the IBM Cloud Object Storage along with export. Similarly, the import image API allows you to import an image to PowerVC from a backup node registered in PowerVC. You can also choose whether you want to download an image from IBM Cloud Object Storage and then import it.
Extend volume size
The size of a volume attached to a virtual machine can be extended by using this PowerVC API extension. The volume size can be expanded, and not reduced. The virtual machine can be running when this API is called. It is the responsibility of operating systems client to recognize the volume size change.
Manage Existing Volumes
The manage existing volumes APIs provide the capability to specify the existing storage volumes that must be managed by the PowerVC Management System. The capabilities include listing volumes that exist in the environment, managing individual volumes, and unmanaging volumes that are currently being managed.
Registering IBM Cloud Object Storage
The Cloud Object Storage (COS) registration APIs allows you to register an existing COS bucket in PowerVC which helps you to upload or download image OVAs.
Retype validation APIs
The retype validation API ensures that the target templates listed for retype of a volume are the most eligible templates for the selected volume.
SAN fabric registration
The SAN Fabric Registration APIs let you specify SAN fabrics and Fibre Channel switches to be managed by PowerVC, and work with those fabrics and switches.
Storage controller registration
The Storage Controller Registration APIs provide the capability to specify the storage controllers that must be managed by the PowerVC Management System. The capabilities include adding new storage controller, removing storage controllers, updating the registration information for existing storage controllers, or retrieving the information about storage controllers that are currently managed. You can also use this API to register pluggable storage.
Supported volume type extra-specs
The extra_specs that PowerVC supports when you are creating or updating volume types by using OpenStack APIs for supported storage providers. PowerVC uses the term storage template instead of volume type.
Working with snapshots and consistency groups
Snapshots and groups can be used to help prepare your environment for recovery. A snapshot allows for a complete copy of a volume at a point in time to be created. There are two types of groups that work in the same way: consistency groups and generic groups. However, consistency groups have been deprecated and support will be removed in a future release. Consistency groups and generic groups allow the volume driver to snapshot a group of volumes at one point in time. This allows you to produce a set of volumes with consistent data that could be used to restore the data in a virtual machine to a known point in time.
