HMC is in Attention state after upgrading it to the latest version

HMC is in Attention state because an older version of HMC is registered with PowerVC.

Explanation

If you have HMC V9.R1.910 or earlier registered with PowerVC and you upgrade HMC to version V9.R1.920, HMC gets into Attention state with a reason Connection failed. The host gets into Critical state. Error messages like these are logged in /var/log/nova-hostname.log file:

(Caused by SSLError(SSLError("The certificate doesn't match the trusted one",),))

This is because the HMC certificate gets changed after upgrading to V9.R1.920 and the PowerVC truststore needs to be updated with the new certificate.

Resolution

To solve this problem, perform the following steps:
  1. From the PowerVC user interface, open the HMC page, click Edit HMC > OK.
  2. Click Connect on the message displayed.

    The PowerVC truststore gets updated with the new HMC certificate. The HMC and the host will return to OK state after a few minutes.
