CoD requirements and considerations

When enabling the PowerVC Dynamic Resource Optimizer (DRO) to move Enterprise Pool Mobile Capacity on Demand (CoD) resources, you must understand these requirements and considerations.

CoD requirements

For DRO to use CoD functions, the following requirements must be met:

  • The server must be a member of an Enterprise Pool. For requirements, see Using Power® Enterprise Pools.
  • If the host is managed by a NovaLink partition, then the host must be in co-management mode so that the NovaLink partition is able to communicate with one of the managing HMCs of the Enterprise Pool.
  • The Enterprise Pool that a host belongs to cannot be out of compliance. If the host's Enterprise Pool is out of compliance, you must manually resolve the issue. For more information, see Power Enterprise Pool compliance
  • DRO for mobile memory requires that the host is managed by a NovaLink partition.

CoD considerations

You should understand the following considerations when using the DRO with CoD:
  • You can change CoD properties and topology outside of PowerVC. However, it takes some time for those changes to be reflected in PowerVC.
  • The DRO does not resolve pool compliance issues.
  • The DRO can only reassign mobile resources from other hosts that are in the same host group and in the same Enterprise Pool. Therefore, it is recommended that all hosts in the same Enterprise Pool belong to the same host group. Otherwise, mobile cores cannot be fully utilized.
