Installing IBM PowerSC MFA server on AIX

The IBM PowerSC MFA components are installed separately.

IBM PowerSC MFA is installed from the installp file sets.

Upgrading an existing installation

The IBM PowerSC MFA AIX package no longer includes the prerequisite RPMs. You must satisfy the prerequisites before installing IBM PowerSC MFA server. However, if you are upgrading an existing IBM PowerSC MFA server installation on AIX, the existing RPMs installed by the current IBM PowerSC MFA version remain on your system. You do not need to reinstall them.

Note: IBM PowerSC MFA version 2.1.0.5 and later no longer includes the prerequisite RPMs. You must satisfy the prerequisites before installing the IBM PowerSC MFA server 2.1.0.5 and later. If you have installed an IBM PowerSC MFA version prior to 2.1.0.5 and then upgrade to 2.1.0.5, the IBM PowerSC MFA 2.1.0.5 installation leaves your existing prerequisite RPMs in place to simplify your installation process.

However, because the IBM PowerSC MFA 2.1.0.5 installation leaves your existing prerequisite RPMs in place, if your IBM PowerSC MFA installation prior to 2.1.0.5 resulted in environment-specific dependency problems, those dependency problems will remain if you upgrade to 2.1.0.5 and later.

In this specific case only, you must perform the following steps:
  1. Uninstall the prior version of IBM PowerSC MFA server:
    installp -u powerscMFA.license powerscMFA.server
  2. Satisfy the installation prerequisites described in Table 1.
  3. Perform a fresh installation of IBM PowerSC MFA 2.1.0.5 and later.

Removing an existing installation

If you uninstall an existing IBM PowerSC MFA server installation on AIX, the existing RPMs installed by the current IBM PowerSC MFA version are removed. If you then reinstall the IBM PowerSC MFA server, you will need to satisfy the installation prerequisites.
