I/O device information

You can view a list of devices that are attached to certain storage subsystem controllers.

About this task

When you select the I/O Device Information menu, you’re presented with a menu of installed subsystem controllers that are supported by the utility as shown in the following examples, depending on the firmware level.

The following menu is available for firmware level FW860_xxx, or later:
I/O Device Information

When the firmware is at a level FW950_xxx or later, you can select the SAN (storage area network) subsystem to display the following menu:

When you select a fabric type or a subsystem, a list of installed subsystem controllers is displayed, similar to the following example.

When you select a controller, the controller is scanned for any attached devices. If there’s an error in attempting to open the adapter, an informational SRC is logged. If the controller is successfully opened and scanned, a list of detected devices is displayed, similar to the following example.

The information that is shown in this menu identifies the type of devices that are available. For disk drives, an attempt is made to determine whether the drive is bootable or not. A reservation is also identified on a drive. If a reservation is identified on a drive, then the drive is unavailable for booting. This is the only SMS menu that lists a disk drive with a reservation.

If a disk drive is selected from the previous menu, a menu similar to the following example is displayed.

When you select the Display Inquiry Data option, the selected drive gathers the standard inquiry data and displays it in a raw data format.

When you select the Log Boot Status Informational SRC option, the system attempts to determine whether the drive is bootable, and then will log an informational SRC.

SAS Devices

For SAS devices, additional information for the selected device might be available and it is displayed by selecting the Display Device Details option. If the device is an array, additional details about the array and its members might be available. This is illustrated by a menu similar to the following example.

Firmware device driver Secure Boot validation failures

When the Secure Boot setting of the logical partition is either Enabled and Log only or Enabled and Enforced, this menu displays a list of PCI devices whose firmware device driver validation has failed. This is illustrated by a menu similar to the following example.

A menu is displayed with a description of the problem when a listed device is selected from the previous menu. The problem description is displayed as shown in the following example menu.


 Secure Boot validation problem description

 The validation of the firmware device driver in the ROM image for the PCI
 function failed.  Recovery from this problem most often requires a microcode
 refresh or an update to the most recent version.
 
 If the Secure Boot setting is Enabled and Enforced, this must be corrected
 for the PCI function to be a candidate for booting an operating system.
