Installing an extender to the rack

You might need to install an extender on your rack.

About this task

To install an extender to the rack, complete the following tasks:

Procedure

  1. Prepare the rack for the extension kit installation.
    To prepare the rack for the extension kit installation, perform the following tasks:
    1. Allow for enough space, at the rear of the rack, for component installation.
    2. Lift the rear door off the hinges, and then remove the door from the rack.
    3. Using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver or a 8 mm socket, remove the screws that secure the top and bottom hinges to the rack.
    4. Using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver or a 8 mm socket, remove the screws that secure the rear latch plate.
  2. Install the left extension panel. To install the left extension panel, perform the following tasks:

    1. Align the left extension panel (H) with the rack corner post.
    2. Using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver, tighten the seven M5 screws with captive star washer (I) into the rack. Use a torque screwdriver to tighten the screws to 2.5 Nm (22.1 lb).
  3. Install the right extension panel.
    To install the right extension panel, perform the following tasks:
    1. Align the right extension panel (D) with the right side covers.
    2. Using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver, tighten the seven M5 screws with captive star washer (E) into the rack. Use a torque screwdriver to tighten the screws to 2.5 Nm (22.1 lb).
  4. Install the top cap.
    To install the top cap, perform the following task:
    1. Align the top cap (A) with the installed extension panels.
    2. Using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver, insert and tighten the M5 screws with captive star washers (B) into each of the screw holes. Use a torque screwdriver to tighten the screws to 2.5 Nm (22.1 lb).
    3. Install the nut clips (C).
  5. Install the bottom cap.
    To place the bottom cap, perform the following task:
    1. Align the bottom cap (F) with the installed extension panels.
    2. Using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver, insert and tighten the M5 screws (G) with captive star washers into each of the screw holes. Use a torque screwdriver to tighten the screws to 2.5 Nm (22.1 lb).
  6. Install the rear hinge assemblies (top and bottom) and the latch plate that you previously removed from the frame onto the extension panel.
