This procedure is for boot failures that terminate early in the boot process.

This error path is indicated when the reference code data words are scrolling automatically through control panel functions 11, 12, and 13, and the control panel interface buttons are not responsive.

Perform the following steps:

  1. Push the power button to reset the system and start it on the other side of the platform Licensed Internal Code.
    Note: The power button resets the system and attempts to reach standby.
  2. Did a reference code occur after you started the system on the other side?
    • No: Verify that the system's firmware is at the latest level. Update the system's firmware on the failing side if necessary. Perform LICCODE. This ends the procedure.
    • Yes: Continue with the next step.
  3. Is the reference code the same reference code that brought you to this procedure?
    • No: Return to Starting a repair action to service this new reference code. This ends the procedure.
    • Yes: Perform the action indicated for your system in the following table.
      System: Action:
      5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-22L, 8247-42L, 8284-21A, 8284-22A, 8286-41A, or 8286-42A Replace the system backplane (Un-P1). Refer to Part locations and location codes to locate the correct system location of the part you are replacing. If the problem is not resolved, contact your next level of support. This ends the procedure.
      8408-44E or 8408-E8E Replace the service processor card at location Un-P1-C5. If the problem persists, replace the I/O backplane at location Un-P1. Refer to Part locations and location codes to locate the correct system location of the part you are replacing. This ends the procedure.
      9080-MHE, 9080-MME, 9119-MHE, or 9119-MME Replace the service processor cards at locations Un-P1-C7 and Un-P1-C10 of the system control unit. If the problem persists, replace the system backplane at location Un-P1 of the system control unit. Refer to Part locations and location codes to locate the correct system location of the part you are replacing. This ends the procedure.
