Plugging rules for memory modules in
the 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-22L, 8284-21A, or 8284-22A system
Find information about the configurations and rules that
apply to memory modules for
the 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-22L, 8284-21A, or 8284-22A system.
This information helps you to install memory modules in
the system.
Figure 1 shows the locations of the memory modules for the 8247-22L or 8284-22A system with two system processors configuration, and
Table 1 provides information about the
plugging rules for the memory modules in the 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-22L, 8284-21A, or 8284-22A system.Figure 1. Memory module plugging sequence
The following table lists the feature codes of the memory modules that
are supported on the 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-22L, 8284-21A, or 8284-22A system:
System
Supported feature codes (FC)
8284-22A
FC EM83, FC EM84, and FC EM85 (DDR3)
FC EM96, FC EM97, and FC EM98 (DDR4)
8284-21A, 5148-21L, or 5148-22L
FC EM96 and FC EM97 (DDR4)
8247-21L, 8247-22L, 5148-21L, or 5148-22L
FC EL3P, FC EL3Q, and FC EL3R (DDR3)
FC EM96, FC EM97, and FC EM98 (DDR4)
Note: To determine if your memory modules have the same
feature code, compare the part numbers of the memory modules installed
in the system to the memory modules being installed. If you need additional
help, contact your next level of support.
Notes:
The 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-22L, or 8284-22A system supports memory modules of 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB.
The 8284-21A system supports memory modules of 16 GB
and up to 4 x 32 GB.
The 8247-21L and
8284-21A systems support a minimum of one memory module
and provide a minimum of 16 GB memory.
The 8247-22L or 8284-22A system
supports a minimum of two (a pair of) memory modules and
provides a minimum of 32 GB memory.
A memory module pair
must be identical and can be different from the other pairs of memory
modules.
The mixing of DDR3 and DDR4 memory in the system is not allowed.
Attention: IBM strongly recommends that the customer
review the minimum firmware levels that are required for DDR4 memory DIMMS and recommendation as to
how to plug them to prevent any exposures.
