Enabling the Mover Service Partitions

This procedure provides step-by-step instructions that explain how to enable the Mover Service Partition (MSP) using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

Before you begin
To enable the MSP, you must be a super administrator or operator.
About this task

The MSP is a Virtual I/O Server logical partition that has at least one VASI adapter configured to allow the MSP to communicate with the hypervisor. There must be at least one MSP on the source and destination Virtual I/O Servers for the mobile partition to participate in active mobility. If the MSP is disabled on either the source or destination Virtual I/O Server, the mobile partition can only participate in inactive mobility.

To enable the source and destination MSPs using the HMC, complete the following steps:

  1. In the navigation area, open Systems Management and select Servers.
  2. Select the managed server of your choice in the navigation area.
  3. In the contents area, select a Virtual I/O Server logical partition and select Properties.
  4. On the General tab, select Mover Service Partition, and click OK.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the destination server.
