Configuring a VASI device

This procedure provides step-by-step instructions that explain how to configure a VASI device for the source and destination Virtual I/O Servers that are designated as Mover Service Partitions.

Before you begin
To configure a VASI device, you must be a super administrator.
About this task

The VASI device allows the mover service partition to communicate with the hypervisor. It must be configured on both the source and destination Virtual I/O Servers designated as the mover service partitions for the mobile partition to participate in active mobility. (If the VASI device is not configured on either the source or destination Virtual I/O Server designated as the Mover Service Partition, the mobile partition can only participate in inactive mobility.)

To configure the source and destination VASI devices on the Mover Service Partitions using the HMC, complete the following steps:

  1. In the navigation area, open Systems Management and select Servers.
  2. Select the managed server of your choice in the navigation area.
  3. In the contents area, select a Virtual I/O Server logical partition and select Configuration > Manage Profiles.
  4. Select the partition profile of your choice and select Actions > Edit.
  5. Click Virtual Adapters tab and select Actions > Create > VASI Adapter.
  6. Slot number is defaulted to 2 and click OK.
  7. Click OK to exit the logical partition profile properties.
  8. Repeat steps 3 through 9 for profiles on the destination server and the destination Virtual I/O Server.
