Logical partitioning allows a single server to run multiple operating system images concurrently on the same system. After a logical partition has been created, you can install an operating system in the partition. The ability to run multiple operating systems concurrently on the system allows for more effective server consolidation. For example, a dedicated AIX® server and dedicated Linux® server can now be consolidated into one server by configuring an AIX and a Linux logical partition.
