Install a feature using the Hardware Management Console

You might need to use the Hardware Management Console to install a feature. Use the procedure in this section to perform this task.

If you are using if you are using an HMC with Version 6 or earlier use the following steps 1
If you are using a an HMC with Version 7 or later use the steps in the next section Install a feature using the HMC Version 7 or later

In the navigation area, expand Management Environment.
Expand the managed system into which you are installing a feature.
Expand Service Applications.
Select Service Focal Point.
In the contents area, select Install/Add/Remove Hardware.
In the Install/Add/Remove Hardware window, highlight system or unit into which you are installing a feature.
Click Selected.
From the Selected menu, select Add FRU.
In the Enclosure type field, select the system or expansion unit into which you are installing a feature.
In the FRU types for selected enclosure, select the feature you are installing.
Click Next.
Follow the instructions to install the feature.
Note: The HMC might open the information center instructions for installing the feature. If so, follow these instructions to install the feature.

Install a feature using the HMC Version 7 or later

In the navigation area, expand Systems Management.
Expand Servers.
Select the managed system you will install the part in.
In the Tasks area expand Serviceability.
Expand Hardware.
Select Add FRU.
In the Add/Install/Remove Hardware window select the system or enclosure into which you are installing the feature.
Select the type of feature you are installing from the menu and click Next
Select the location code for where you will install the feature and click Add.
Once the FRU is in pending actions click Launch Procedure and follow the instructions to install the feature.
Note: The HMC might open external instructions for installing the feature. If so, follow these instructions to install the feature.
