Enabling On/Off Capacity on Demand

Before requesting temporary capacity on your server, you must enable your server for On/Off Capacity on Demand (CoD). To enable your server for On/Off CoD, you must use the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

1. Retrieve the resulting On/Off CoD enablement code from either your desktop or from the HMC.

   Option	Description
   Desktop	From your desktop, access the appropriate Web site: System i models: www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/ondemand/cod. Then, click Search by machine serial on the right side. System p models: www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/pseries/ondemand/cod . Then, click the Activation tab, and click Activation codes by machine serial number on the right side. Enter the system type and serial number of your server. Record the activation code that is displayed on the Web site.
   Hardware Management Console	Right-click the HMC desktop and select Net --> Browser. Near the bottom of the window, click IBM in the line Go to IBM web site. Enter http://www-912.ibm.com/pod/pod in the Search box at the top and click Search. Under the search results, click the URL that reads http://www-912.ibm.com/pod/pod. Enter the System Type and Serial Number for the system for which you want to retrieve the code and click Submit. Record the activation code that is displayed on the Web site. To copy the activation code, left-click and drag the mouse to highlight the code.

2. Enter your activation code on your server using the HMC. To enter your code:
   1. In the navigation area of the HMC window, expand Server and Partition.
   2. Select Server Management.
   3. In the contents area, right-click the server on which you want enter your enablement code.
   4. Select Manage On Demand Activations.
   5. Select Capacity on Demand.
   6. Select Enter CoD Code.
   7. Type your activation code in the Code field. If you have copied the code, click the middle mouse button.
   8. Click OK.
   9. If a confirmation window is displayed, click Yes to confirm the activation. Click Cancel to cancel the activation.
