Update, upgrade, and migrate HMC machine code

HMC periodically releases updates and upgrades to introduce new features and enhance existing ones. You can perform an HMC machine code update, upgrade, or migration.

Note: After completing each of these tasks, the HMC system restarts, but the partitions will not be affected.

Update HMC code: Applies maintenance to an existing HMC level.
You are not required to perform the save upgrade data task.
Upgrade HMC code: Replaces HMC software with a new release or fix level of the same program.
You need to boot from the recovery media.
Migrate HMC code: Moves HMC data from one HMC version to another.
A migration is a type of upgrade.
