Function 42: Platform system dump
This function initiates a platform system dump. This function is available only in the manual operating mode and when activated by the service processor.
You can use function 42 to dump the main storage and hardware data of IBM® POWER® Hypervisor™. The platform dump function is protected by a debounce algorithm that requires two consecutive function 42 selections to initiate the platform dump.
To initiate the platform dump in FSP, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to function 42 on the op-panel.
- Press Enter to bring up the confirmation SRC.
The display shows A1703042.
- Press Enter.
The display shows 42.
- Press Enter to start the dump.

To initiate the platform dump in BMC, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to function 42 on the op-panel.
- Press Enter to bring up the confirmation SRC.
The display shows A1003042.
- Press Enter.
The display shows 42 00 and the dump starts automatically.
