Adding or removing media files from a media library

You can use the Hardware Management Console (HMC) to add or remove media files from a media library and to support the Network File System (NFS)-mounted ISOs in the media library. The virtual media library is assigned to a Virtual I/O Server (VIOS).

Before you begin

For VIOS to support the Network File System (NFS) mounted ISOs in the media library, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Verify that the NFS server is accessible and that the NFS service in VIOS is running.
  • Verify that the nfsrgyd, rpc.statd, and rpc.lockd daemon programs are in the Active state on the NFS client and can access the NFS server.
  • Mount the NFS share to VIOS before you run the mkvopt command to create the soft link.
  • Obtain permission for the VIOS padmin user to access the target ISO image on the NFS server.
  • After you restart VIOS, remount the NFS shares and run the cfgdev command to restore the virtual optical mappings to the Available state.
  • If the system uses a firewall, open multiple remote ports of the NFS server to mount the NFS share.
  • The VIOS does not enforce any NFS authentication. You can enable authentication in the NFS server and the NFS client.
  • Verify the ISO images as VIOS does not validate the content of the ISO image.
