Enabling data collection

You can enable or disable the Data collection option from the System dashboard tab.

About this task

The Hardware Management Console (HMC) sets the number of servers that can be monitored. You can view the number of managed servers that can be monitored by accessing the preferences option, in the REST API of the Performance dashboard, at the following uniform resource identifier:
https://your_hmc_ip_address:443/rest/api/pdashboard/preferences

You can enable the data collection in multiple ways for one or more managed servers. Complete any one of the following methods to enable the data collection:

  • From the HMC dashboard:
    1. In the navigation pane, click System resources.
    2. Click Systems. The Systems page is displayed.
    3. Select one or more systems for which you want to enable the data collection.
    4. Click Performance > Turn on/off performance data collection. The Performance monitoring settings page opens.
    5. Select one or more systems from the list to enable the Data collection by clicking the toggle button. The green tick mark indicates that the Data collection is enabled for the selected systems. You can also enable the Data collection for all the systems by clicking the All on tab.
      Important: In the Performance monitoring settings page, you can enable the Data collection for one or more systems and also set the Performance data storage time duration.
      The maximum time duration that you can set for the Performance data storage is 366 days.
  • From the HMC dashboard:
    1. In the navigation pane, click System resources.
    2. Click Systems. The Systems page is displayed.
    3. Click Usage.
    4. If the Data collection is not enabled for any particular system, under the Data collection column, click On. The green tick mark indicates that the Data collection is enabled for that particular system.
  • From the Performance dashboard:
    1. In the HMC dashboard home page, click Performance dashboard in the left navigation pane. The Systems page is displayed.
    2. Select a system from the available list and click Launch.
    3. Click System dashboard tab from the left navigation pane in the Performance dashboard.
    4. In the System dashboard home page, if the Data collection option is not enabled, click Turn data collection on in the notification message to enable the data collection for the selected system.
      Note: By default, the Data collection toggle button is set to on.
