Changing the memory allocation

You can enable or disable the I/O Adapter Enlarged Capacity and the Dynamic I/O Drawer Attachment with this task.

To run these operations, you must have one of the following authority levels:
  • Administrator
  • Authorized service provider
Note: The system must be powered off. Any changes to the memory configuration are effective on the next restart.

For firmware Version FW 1060, or later

I/O Adapter Enlarged Capacity

You can increase the amount of I/O adapter memory for the specified Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) slots. When the Enable I/O Adapter Enlarged Capacity option is selected, you can specify the PCI slots to receive the largest memory-mapped address spaces that are available.

To enable or disable I/O adapter memory allocation, complete the following steps:

  1. On the ASMI Welcome page, specify your user ID and password, and click Log In.
  2. In the navigation area, expand System Configuration > Platform Memory Allocations For I/O.
  3. In the content pane, select Enable I/O Adapter Enlarged Capacity option.
  4. Select a value for the Enlarged IO Capacity Slot Count for Node option from the drop down list. This value specifies the number of PCI slots to enable.
  5. Click Save settings.

Dynamic I/O Drawer Attachment

With firmware version FW 1060, or later, you can control the number of PCI slots that support the external I/O drawers. To enable the dynamic I/O drawer attachment, you can allocate platform memory during initial program load (IPL) for PCI slots. The dynamic I/O drawer attachment support requires more platform memory to be allocated per enabled slot during platform power on. A nonzero setting increases the reserved memory on the server.

To enable a dynamic I/O drawer attachment, complete the following steps:

  1. On the ASMI Welcome page, specify your user ID and password, and click Log In.
  2. In the navigation area, expand System Configuration > Platform Memory Allocations For I/O.
  3. In the content pane, select the Dynamic I/O Drawer Attachment option.
  4. Select a value for the Dynamic I/O Drawer Attachment Slot Count for Node option from the drop down list. This value specifies the slot count for the node.
  5. Click Save settings.

For firmware Version FW 1050, or earlier

You can increase the amount of I/O adapter memory for specified PCI slots. When the I/O Adapter Enlarged Capacity option is enabled, you can specify the PCI slots to receive the largest memory-mapped address spaces that are available.

To enable or disable I/O adapter memory allocation, complete the following steps:

  1. On the ASMI Welcome pane, specify your user ID and password, and click Log In.
  2. In the navigation area, expand System Configuration.
  3. Select I/O Adapter Enlarged Capacity.
  4. In the content pane, select Enabled or Disabled. When enabling the I/O Adapter Enlarged Capacity, you must specify the number of PCI slots to enable.
  5. Click Save settings.
