Preparing the 7063-CR1 system for operation after removing and replacing the system backplane
Learn how to prepare the IBM 7063-CR1 Hardware Management Console system for operation after removing and replacing the system backplane.
Procedure

Prepare the system for operation.

- Boot the system and go into the Petitboot shell by selecting Exit to shell from the boot menu.
- Set the system date and time by using the following command:
date "YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm"For example:date "2023-01-03 19:33" - Exit the shell, and return to the main Petitboot menu by entering the following
command:
exit - To download the vpdupdate-3.0.pb-plugin:
- Go to Scale-out LC System Event Log Collection Tool.
- Locate the vpdupdate-3.0.pb-plugin link.
- Click the link to download the plugin.
- Copy the plugin to the root directory of a USB key. Do not place it inside a directory or a folder. Ensure that the USB drive is formatted as FAT32 or VFAT. Insert the USB key on the 7063-CR1. Do not modify the plugin’s file extension “.pb-plugin”, as this simplifies the next step.
- Insert the USB drive containing the Petitboot Plugin, into any of the HMC USB ports.
- If Petitboot detects the .pb-plugin file in the USB drive, it displays the plugin in the Plugins menu option. The number in parentheses indicates the total number of plugins that are found on the connected devices. For example, "Plugins(1)" indicates that only one plugin was found on the connected devices.
- Select the Plugins menu option and press Enter.
- Select VPD from the list of available plugins and press
Enter to install it. Once the installation is complete, the message "VPD Update Utility [installed]" appears.
- Select Return to Main Menu and press Enter, or press x to return to the main menu.
- Select Exit to shell.
- Update the model by running the following command:
/var/lib/pb-plugins/bin/updatemodel 7063-CR1 - Update the serial number by running the following command:
/var/lib/pb-plugins/bin/updateserial <sn>Note: Where<sn>is the seven-digit serial number. On 7063-CR1 the serial number can be found in a pull-out tab on the upper left of the system. - Save changes by running the following command:
ipmitool raw 0x3a 0x1cNote: This might take 30 seconds to complete. Check the status by running the following command:
Continue after the command returns a value of 00.ipmitool raw 0x3a 0x1d -
Restart the system. Complete the following steps:

Remove both power cords, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect both power cords. Start the
system.

- Once the system is rebooted, access the Petitboot shell and verify that the values were
saved by running the following command:
ipmitool fru list 3Note: The model is listed under Chassis Part Number and the serial number is listed under Chassis Serial. - Type
exitand press Enter to return to the Petitboot menu. - Select System Configuration.

Under the Boot Order item, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to Clear and press Enter.

Navigate to Add Device and press Enter.
- Navigate to the device that you want;
sda2and press Enter. - Tab to OK and press Enter.
- Navigate to the device that you want;
- Under the Boot Console item, select /dev/tty1 [VGA].
- Select OK to save the settings and return to the main menu.
- From the main menu, select Hardware Management Console and press
Enter. Note: It might take a few seconds for the option to become available.
- Configure the BMC network settings by completing the following steps:
- Access the HMC GUI from a browser.
- For HMC 10.1.1020, or earlier: Navigate to HMC Management > Console Settings > Change BMC/IPMI Network Settings. For HMC 10.2.1030 through 10.2.1040: Navigate to HMC Management > BMC connectivity.For HMC 10.3.1050, or later: Navigate to HMC Management > BMC Settings.

If the firmware is not at the latest level, recommend that the customer update it.
