Replacing a memory module in the 9105-22A, 9105-22B, or 9786-22H system
To replace a memory module in the system, complete the steps in this procedure.
Procedure
- Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap on and that the ESD clip is plugged into a ground jack or connected to an unpainted metal surface. If not, do so now.
- Use the slot information that you recorded to determine the slot location to place the memory module.
- If the memory module is a DDR4
memory module, grasp the memory module by the edges and insert the memory module into the static
discharge tool that is located near the small memory locations P0-C16 through P0-C21. Wait 5
seconds. Then, remove the memory module from the tool.
Note: To determine whether a memory module is a DDR4 or DDR5 memory module, look at the service label on the memory module. While the DDR4 memory module service label does not always indicate the memory type, the DDR5 memory module service label always indicates that it is a DDR5 memory module.Review the following animation for a demonstration of how to discharge a memory module prior to installing it.
- Using the alignment slots, press the memory module straight
down firmly into the connector until fully seated. Attention: Memory modules are keyed to prevent a memory module from being installed incorrectly. Note the location of the key tab within the memory module connector before you attempt to install the memory module.Review the following animation for a demonstration of how to install a memory module in the side location.Review the following animation for a demonstration of how to install a memory module in the small memory location.Review the following animation for a demonstration of how to install a memory module in the large memory location.
- Replace the retainer that secures the memory module in place. The side locations have raised projections in the chassis to help align the retainers.
