Installing memory modules in the 9028-21B system

To install memory modules in a system, complete the steps in this procedure.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap on and that the ESD clip is plugged into a ground jack or connected to an unpainted metal surface. If not, do so now.
  2. Use the slot information that you recorded to determine the slot location to place the memory module.
  3. If the slot you want to use contains a filler, remove the filler from the slot.
Note: The memory module slots must contain either a memory module or a filler to ensure proper cooling.
To remove the memory module filler, complete the following steps:
    1. Hold the memory module filler by the edges and pull it out of the system.
    2. Retain the removed memory module filler so that you can use it to fill up an empty slot, if needed later.
  4. Push the plastic retention clips outward to open up the slots for the memory modules.
  5. Using the alignment slots, press the memory module straight down firmly into the connector until the retention clips automatically click into place.
Attention: Memory modules are keyed to prevent a memory module from being installed incorrectly. Note the location of the key tab within the memory module connector before you attempt to install the memory module.
Review the following animation for a demonstration of how to install a memory module.

  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each memory module.
