Upgrading TM1® Server from IBM® Planning Analytics Local 2.0 to 2.1

When upgrading Windows installations of Planning Analytics Local 2.0 to version 2.1, you must uninstall the previous version. Planning Analytics Local 2.1 cannot be installed directly over an existing Planning Analytics Local 2.0 installation directory.

Planning Analytics Local 2.1 cannot be installed on the same Windows system as Planning Analytics Local 2.0. The Planning Analytics Local 2.1 installer for Windows prevents the installation from completing if a Planning Analytics Local 2.0 installation is detected.

Planning Analytics Local on Linux does allow multiple installations of different versions of Planning Analytics on the same system. Before installing on Linux validate all prerequisites listed here:

The Planning Analytics Local 2.1 installer includes the following components:

  • TM1 Server
  • TM1 Admin Server
  • TM1 Tools
  • TM1 Samples
  • TM1 Core Dump tool
  • Planning Analytics Administration Agent.

The Planning Analytics Local 2.1 installer does not have a web tier or client tier.

Note: Versions of Planning Analytics Local before 2.0.9.2 included TM1 Web as part of the TM1 Server installation kit. Starting with the 2.0.9.2 release of Planning Analytics Local 2.0, TM1 Web must be installed from its own installation kit (Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Services). Before uninstalling Planning Analytics Local 2.0, any TM1 databases that contain files in the TM1 Server installation directory should be copied or moved from the installation directory. This may include the sample models (typically found in the C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\samples\tm1\ directory) that have been modified.

It is recommended to store the TM1 database configuration files, database files, and log files outside of the TM1 Server installation directory. It is important to identify and note the location of all TM1 database files before uninstalling. The location of the TM1 database files will be required after completing the installation of Planning Analytics Local 2.1.

If SSL certificates were configured for the TM1 Admin Server and TM1 databases, the files containing the SSL certificates from the Planning Analytics 2.0 installation should be backed up before uninstalling. The files with the SSL certificates can be found by examining the Key database location and Key database password location settings for the TM1 Admin Server in Cognos Configuration or by examining the keyfile and keystashfile parameter in the tm1s.cfg files for any TM1 databases.

The uninstall program (uninst.exe) for Windows installations of Planning Analytics Local 2.0 is found in the <tm1_64>\uninstall\ directory. This Windows uninstall program removes all Planning Analytics services, including:

  • IBM Cognos TM1 Applications service (if it is installed)
  • TM1 Admin Server service
  • all TM1 Databases services
  • Planning Analytics Administration Agent service.

These services, excluding the IBM Cognos TM1 Applications service, are added to the list of Windows services after installing Planning Analytics Local 2.1 and starting the services from Cognos Configuration.

It is possible to register and start the TM1 Admin Server and TM1 Database services without the use of Cognos Configuration on both Windows and Linux.
