Create a database on Planning Analytics as a Service

You must have the Administrator role to create a database.

About this task

When you specify the Planning Analytics database name, ensure that you follow rules regarding special characters, character lengths, and other operating system and process restrictions. The database name cannot:
  • Have more than 75 characters
  • Be blank
  • Contain only spaces, and begin or end with a space
  • Contain only periods (for example, '...'), and end with a period '.'
  • Contain only the number 0
  • Contain the following characters: \/":|<>+=;,?*@$`'}{%
  • Contain the new line (\n) character

Procedure

  1. Open Planning Analytics Workspacein Planning Analytics as a Service.
  2. Click the Administration tile.
  3. Click Databases.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Enter a Database name.
  6. If you want to enable failover protection and ensure maximum database availability, enable the High availability option and specify the number of Replicas you want to create for the database.

One (1) or more replicas ensure high availability for the database. It might be desirable to increase the number of replica databases during a critical period of business activity to temporarily improve resilience. You can later reduce the number of replicas during normal operations.

Each replica counts against your disc space and memory quota.

Cellsets that are generated by views and MDX execution are balanced across the replicas. This provides a partial load balancing effect among replicas. Cellsets are used by the Planning Analytics clients such as Planning Analytics Workspace and Planning Analytics for Excel to support users changing cell values in the cube viewer and in Excel reports. Metadata changes happen on the leader database node and are propagated to follower replicas in near real time.

  7. Specify the amount of disc space you want to allocate to the database. The amount of disc space that is available from your quota is indicated to help you decide how much to allocate.
  8. Specify the amount of memory you want to allocate to the database. The amount of memory that is available from your quota is indicated to help you decide how much to allocate.
  9. The Automatic backups option is enabled by default. Automatic daily backups of your database are included as part of your Planning Analytics as a Service agreement. However, if automatic backups are not desired, as might be the case in a development environment, you can disable the Automatic backups option.
  10. If backups are enabled, specify a Backup start time. This is the time at which backups start each day. The time is specified in local time, but stored in GMT.
  11. Click Create.
