Create and edit a set

A set is a collection of members in a dimension that limits the number of members that are displayed in a view.

You can create or modify an existing set by using the set editor.

To open a set, click a dimension tile in the cube view, and select Set Editor.

Once you open the set editor, follow these steps to create or modify a set:

  1. Display the members that you want to use in the set by selecting from the Hierarchy menu, and the Set menu.
Note: You can also select a virtual set from the Available members menu to see All members, All roots, or All leaves.
  2. Select the members in the Available members list, then choose one of the following options to add the members to the Current set:
    • Drag the members in the Available members list to the Current set.
    • Click Insert to insert the members into the current set.
    • Click Replace set with new insertion to replace all of the members in the current set.
    • To append the members in the Available members list to the members in the Current set, select the member and then click Insert.

To control the members that are inserted into the set, click the menu for a member and select one of these options under Insert.

    • Click Remove duplicated members to display only distinct members from the current set.

Working in the Current set

The Current set changes when you:
  • Select a named set or virtual set from Current set list
  • Replace Current set with a named set from the Available members pane
  • Switch hierarchies - when you switch hierarchies, the Current set changes to the default named set. If a default named set does not exist, the Current set switches to All roots.
  • Delete the current named set

You can select a named or virtual set from the Current set list. The availability of sets in the Current set pane lets you work with these sets without having to toggle Available members back on when you are in single-pane mode.

Current set with virtual sets options

When you select a virtual set, the Current set label changes to display the virtual set's name. If your Current set is a named set, the Current set keeps the alias of the existing set and expands above with the virtual set, when you select Show totals trailing and choose a virtual set.

You can do the following to make changes in the Current set:
Change the position of a member
Right-click the member, then click one of the Move options. You can only change the position of a member if the set is static. See Convert a dynamic set to static.
You can also cut, copy, and paste members (use CTRL + V for Windows, or CMD + V for the Mac).
Remove members
Select the members, then click Remove.
To remove all members from the Current set, click Remove all members.
You can also remove duplicate members from the Current set by clicking Remove duplicated members.
Keep only selected members
Select the members, then click Keep.
Display Member ID
You can display the Member ID or the Alias for a member instead of the Caption. An alias is an alternative name for a member. Click Member ID and select the display name type.
Sort members
You can sort members in the Current set in the following way by clicking Sort:
  • Ascending
  • Descending
  • Hierarchically ascending
  • Hierarchically descending
