Add a set consolidation to a view

You can create a set consolidation that is based on named and unnamed set members.

About this task

A set consolidation can be created only in an Exploration visualization.

Procedure

  1. Locate the Set consolidations menu option in the context for which you want to create the set consolidation.

This option is available from multiple places in the application: from the dimension tile overflow menu Context menu icon (shown in the image below), from the column and row right-click menu, from the thumbs right-click menu, and also from the Fields panel tile menus.

    Set consolidations menu option
  2. Click Set consolidations.

The following dialog box is displayed:

    Set consolidations dialog box
  3. The Calculation name is populated based on your Set and Calculation options choices.

If you type a custom calculation name, it will remain unchanged, no longer reacting to your selections.

  4. In the Set box, you can select two types of sets:
    • Named sets

These predefined sets are already listed in this box.

    • Unnamed sets

Click Set Editor to select different members to add to the list of sets for your consolidation.

Set Editor in the Set consolidations dialog box

In the Set editor, select the members that you want to add.

Tip: Click Apply to create an unnamed set with the currently displayed member, or click Replace to create an unnamed set with the currently selected members.

For more information, see Create and edit a set.

The selected members are added at the end of the list in the Set box, and you can use them to create the consolidation.

  5. Under Calculation options, select the calculation type that you want to create.
    Average
Displays the average value of the set members.
    Minimum
Displays the smallest value of the set members.
    Maximum
Displays the largest value of the set members.
    Median
Displays the median value of the set members (the middle value). If there are an even number of values, it displays the average of the two middle values.
    Sum
Displays the total of the set members.
    Aggregate
An aggregate calculation allows you to summarize values that can't simply be added up or averaged. For example, percentage or ratio values that are the result of a rule calculation.
Aggregate displays the aggregate value of the set members. This value is affected by whether a member has a C: level rule (a rule that applies to consolidated cells) associated with it or not. If the member has no C: level rule associated with it, Aggregate displays the sum. If the member has a C: level rule, the resulting value is the same as the consolidated member aggregating the same members. To use this feature, you must have IBM® Planning Analytics version 2.0.9 or later.
  6. In the Set consolidations dialog box, click Apply.

Results

If you created the set consolidation for specific rows or columns, the consolidation is added in the grid after the related row or column. If you created the set consolidation from the rows or columns handle, the consolidation is added as the last row or column.
