Preserve or overwrite DBRW formulas with formula mode

Use formula mode to determine how values are entered into cells in aCustom Report or Dynamic Report.

The formula mode has two options: Writeback Mode and As Value Mode.

Turn on Writeback Mode if you want to preserve DBRW formulas when you enter values into cells. To keep the updated values and formula, use Excel's Paste Values option under Paste Special . If you copy paste or drag values into cells, the values are lost as Excel's default copy feature preserves only the formula.

When As Value Mode is active, you can enter values into cells and overwrite any DBRW formulas in those cells. This makes it easier to restructure reports.

Location of As Value Mode icon

In As Value Mode, you cannot overwrite a DBRW formula when you change your selection in a DBRW pick list.

Note: When you copy and paste formula cells in Custom Reports and Dynamic Reports, if Automatic Calculation Mode is on, you can paste formulas only once. The recalculation that occurs in Automatic Calculation Mode discards the original formula cell selection and preserves only the value of the cell. If you paste a formula more than once, the subsequent pastes only paste the value of the cell. If you want to paste a formula multiple times, either turn Automatic Calculation Mode off, or paste the formula as a full formula string to preserve it across multiple pastes.

How to enable or disable Writeback and As Value modes

You can toggle between the Writeback Mode and As Value Mode by clicking the relevant icon in the Dynamic group of the IBM® Planning Analytics ribbon.
