Re-register file types with a Microsoft Office program
When you are not able to open a Microsoft
Office document even though it is associated with the correct file type, you must re-register the
file type with the appropriate Microsoft Office program,
such as Excel, Word, or PowerPoint.
About this task
Note: If you are using the command line on version 7 of Microsoft
Windows operating system, you must elevate the rights of
the command line to perform certain tasks, such as re-registering file types. To open an elevated
command prompt, or a command prompt in Administrator mode, right-click the command prompt shortcut,
and select Run as Administrator.
