You can create a hierarchy in the dimension editor when you create a dimension or you can
add a hierarchy to an existing dimension.
You can also create a hierarchy by saving an existing hierarchy with a new name and you can
create a hierarchy from a string attribute.
Procedure
-
To create a hierarchy in the dimension editor, click the action icon
next to
Hierarchy, then click Create hierarchy.
-
To create a hierarchy from the Databases tree:
- Right-click a dimension and click Create hierarchy.
By default, the hierarchy is created on the same database and in the same dimension from which
you clicked Create hierarchy, but you can use the
Database and Dimension selectors to create a hierarchy
on a different database and within a different dimension.
- Enter the name of the new hierarchy and click
Create.
- Add members to the hierarchy using any of the methods described in Create a dimension in Planning Analytics Workspace.
- To create a hierarchy from an existing hierarchy in the dimension editor:
- Open the existing hierarchy in the dimension editor.
- Click the action icon
next to Hierarchy and click Save hierarchy
as.
- Name the hierarchy and click Save as.
The members
and attributes of the original hierarchy are copied.
- To create a hierarchy from a string attribute, click the attribute name on the
Attributes tab in the dimension editor, then click Create
hierarchy. A new hierarchy is created with the same name as the attribute.
- To edit an existing hierarchy, open the parent dimension of the hierarchy in the
dimension editor, then click the Hierarchy selector and click the hierarchy
you want to edit. Alternatively, right-click the hierarchy in the Databases
tree, then click Edit hierarchy.
- To delete a hierarchy, right-click the hierarchy in the Databases
tree, then click Delete hierarchy.
