When you work in the dimension editor without reserving a dimension, any changes you make
are instantly saved to the database so that anyone who has access to the database can see the
updated dimension. However, if the dimension is not reserved, other users can simultaneously edit
the dimension.
You can reserve a dimension to prevent other people from editing the dimension until your changes
are complete. When you reserve a dimension, any changes that you make are not saved to the database
until you click Commit on the action menu.
You must have at least Write privilege to a dimension to reserve the dimension.
Procedure
-
In the dimension editor, click the action icon
next to the dimension name, then
click Reserve.
When a dimension is reserved, an icon is displayed next to the dimension name.
Any user who opens the dimension in the dimension editor can hover over the icon to see which
user reserved the dimension.
You can edit only the dimension members and hierarchies when a dimension is reserved; you can’t
edit attributes or member security.
- After you complete your modifications to the dimension, click Commit on the dimension edit
bar to save your changes.
Note: Because the dimension is reserved, this Commit action does
not save your changes to the database. Rather, the changes are saved to a temporary 'sandbox.'
Changes are not saved to the database until you click Commit on the action
menu, as described in Step 4.
- To undo changes to the dimension before the dimension is saved to the database, click the
action icon
, then click Release. This action reverts any
changes you've made since you reserved the dimension, even changes that were committed after you
click Commit on the dimension action bar.
- When your changes are complete, click the action icon
, then click Commit to release the dimension reservation
and save your changes to the database.
