Add members to a dimension or hierarchy in Planning Analytics Workspace

You can add members to a dimension or hierarchy one at a time or by copying and pasting a number of members from an editor such as Microsoft Excel.

You can also import dimension members from a file. For more information, see Import members and attributes into a dimension.

This procedure describes how to add members individually in the dimension editor.

Before modifying a dimension, you might want to reserve the dimension to prevent other users from simultaneously modifying the dimension.

Procedure

  1. In the Databases tree, expand the database that contains the dimension that you want to edit.
  2. Expand the Dimensions node, then right-click the dimension that you want to edit and click Edit dimension.
  3. Select the hierarchy you want to modify.
  4. Click the Members tab.
  5. Select a member.

Generally, you should select a member that is immediately adjacent to the new member you want to create. You can later choose the relationship or position of the new member to the selected member.

  6. Click Add member, then click the desired option for the new member.
  7. Type a name for the member.

If you press ENTER after typing a member name, you can immediately begin entering a new member at the same level in the dimension.

  8. Optionally, select a Type and Weight for the new member.

By default, new leaf members are added as numeric members with a weight of 1.

If you add a member as a parent, the member is always added as a consolidated member.

  9. Click Commit to save your changes to the dimension or hierarchy.

You can also quickly add a root level member to your dimension by clicking Add root member.
