Create a Selector visualization to manage views
A Selector is a unique type of visualization that lets you pick members, sets, or levels for views (either exploration or visualization) in a book. When a Selector is synchronized with a book or a sheet, a selection in the Selector is applied to the views in the book or sheet. For example, suppose that you have an exploration or visualization and the overview is hidden. You can add a Selector to the book, then click an item in the Selector to change the data in the view.
About this task
- While a book is in edit mode, click the Selector visualization,
- Click Properties.
- Click the Custom tab.
There are several property categories available on the Custom tab. You might need to expand a category to reveal all available options.
- Selector style
- View as selector list - Enable this property to display a list of items (sets, levels, members) on the Selector. Disable to display a single item on the Selector, which you can click to expand and reveal additional items.
- Responsive list
- Responsive list - This property is available only when the
View as selector list property is turned on.
Enable this property to make the Selector responsive to size changes. When this property is enabled, the Selector always shows the number of items specified by the Maximum number of items property. If the Selector is resized, the text size for each item is scaled to occupy all available space in the list.
Disable to maintain constant text size for items in the selector list.
- Set editor
- Allow access to set editor - Enable this option to allow access to the
set editor both from the overflow menu and from the list of members on a Selector that is formatted
to display a single item with a drop-down menu.
Disable this property to prevent access to the set editor from the Selector. When this property is disabled, the Show overflow menu property is automatically disabled.
If you disable the Show overflow menu property, but enable the Allow access to set editor property, the set editor is available only on a Selector that is formatted to display a single item with a drop-down menu. In this case, the set editor is also available from the Fields panel. - Selection type
- Sets - Show sets in the Selector.
