Types of Output Manager rules and definitions

The following table lists the Output Manager administrative rules and definitions that you can define. The required definitions are needed to capture and archive SYSOUT.

The optional definitions can be defined, as needed, for your site, to produce basic and custom reports. The recommended definitions provide management features for the associated function. Note that most definitions must be linked to or associated with other types of definitions to be effective.

Table 1. Output Manager rules and definitions
Rule or definition Required or Optional Description Link to
Archive attributes Required Specifies attributes for allocating an archive data set to hold captured SYSOUT data for a basic or custom report.
  • Selector rule
  • Subselector rule (if defined)
Selector rule (or selector definition) Required Specifies criteria for selecting SYSOUT data from the JES spool and for defining what to do with that captured data when it is archived. Archive attributes
Subselector rule Optional Specifies additional criteria for selecting SYSOUT data from the JES spool and for defining what to do with that captured data when it is archived. Archive attributes
Report layout Required for custom and indexed reports Defines the physical page layout of the original report, including where fields are located on a page.
  • Report definition for a custom or indexed report (required)
  • Report selection rule (optional)
Report selection rule Optional, but required for reports Specifies criteria (such as job name, step name, and DD name) against which captured SYSOUT data is matched to determine if it is a candidate for processing into a basic or custom report. Report layout (optional)
Recipient IDs Optional, but required for reports Provides information about the persons or locations that are to receive a report (either online or as a printed hardcopy). For a report to be sent to these recipients, you must include the recipient IDs in a distribution list. In report bundles, recipient IDs provide information for identifying the bundle recipients to receive report packages. Recipients are required if the security feature ARCFILTER is enabled.
  • Printer attributes (optional)
  • Distribution lists
  • Bundle recipients
Distribution list Required for distributing non-bundled reports during automatic printing or reprint operations. Recommended for managing access to reports for online viewing. Provides a list of recipients (recipient IDs) that are to receive a report. Optionally, distribution lists may contain child distribution lists. You can specify that all recipients or selected recipients in the list receive a hardcopy of the report. Ignored for report bundles.
  • Recipient IDs
  • Printer attributes
  • Other distribution lists
Printer attributes Optional Specifies attributes for printing hardcopies of a report on a printer.
  • Recipient IDs (optional)
  • Report definitions (optional)

Bundle definition Optional, used for report bundles only Identifies a bundle of reports and lists the bundle recipients and reports that are included the bundle.

  • Report definitions (required for bundle reports)
  • Banner pages (optional at all levels of the bundle definition)
Report definition Optional, but required for reports Specifies the condition entries or index fields that are matched against captured SYSOUT to create a custom report or indexed report pages. If no condition entries or index fields are specified, a basic report is created. Output Manager can dynamically generate a report definition for a basic report based on report selection rule. In bundle definitions, report definitions are selected as the "bundle reports" to include in bundle instances.
