Types of printing

Output Manager supports the following general types of printing:

Ad-hoc printing
From the ISPF interface, you can specify the P (Print) line command to print a captured report (basic or custom report), an archived report, or a set of indexed report pages (field index) for your own use. A job is submitted to perform the print. Usually, the report output is then sent to a printer and removed from the spool. The jobname for the output will be based on your TSO user ID.
Automatic printing
You can configure Output Manager to print and distribute basic reports and custom reports immediately after the SYSOUT is generated, archived, and the defined reports or field indexes are captured from that SYSOUT. Output Manager automatically distributes these reports in "real time" to the recipients that are on the distribution list to which the report definition is linked. Automatic printing does not apply to archived reports.
Reprinting
Administrators can specify a reprint line command for a captured report (basic or custom report), or a field index value to perform a print run for some or all recipients on the selected distribution list. For each recipient for whom the report is to be reprinted, a separate job is submitted to print the report output to the JES spool. For the reprint request to succeed, you must link the report definition to a distribution list or select a distribution list when you issue the reprint command. You can add recipients to the distribution list temporarily for the duration of this reprint request. Additionally, you can change certain printing options for recipients who have the Hardcopy option set to Yes. You can also change the Hardcopy option for one or more recipients on the distribution list so that recipients either receive a printed copy of the report or not.
Note: All changes to printing options are temporary for this reprint request only and do not affect any of the underlying administrative objects.
