Printing-related definitions

You can control how reports are printed and distributed by creating the following definitions from the Output Manager ISPF interface:

  • Recipient IDs - Provide information about how to process reports for a specific person or location. Required for automatic printing and reprint requests.
  • Distribution lists - Identify a group of recipients to receive a report or a set of indexed report pages (a field index). Required for automatic printing and reprint requests.
  • (Optional) Sets of printer attributes - Provide information for printing hardcopies of individual reports. Optional for all types of printing.
  • (Optional) Banner pages - Provide additional information that can be included in the printed output for individual reports and for report bundles. Optional for all types of printing.

For your printing-related definitions to be used, you must associate them with certain other Output Manager definitions. For example, for a basic or custom report, you would add recipient IDs to a distribution list, and link the report definition to the distribution list.

Which printing-related definitions you need to create and how you link them to other definitions will depend on how you set two key print control fields in report definitions (for basic and custom reports) and in sets of archive attributes (for archives). These print control fields are the Print Model field and the Dynamic Print field. For more information, see Key print control fields.

For report bundles, you must define the recipient IDs that will serve as the basis for the bundle recipients in the bundle definitions. Optionally, you can define banner pages for the bundle as a whole, a specific bundle recipient, or a specific bundle report. If you associate distribution lists or sets of printer attributes with bundle reports, Output Manager will ignore these definitions while the bundle window is open (the period after bundle activation, while Output Manager is actively collecting reports for the bundle). However, when the bundle is inactive (after bundle deactivation and before reactivation), Output Manager will use the distribution lists and sets of printer attributes for the automatic printing or reprinting of any individual report instances that are captured. Therefore, if you intend to print and distribute reports both as part of a bundle and individually, you should define the distribution lists and sets of printer attributes that you want to use for printing the reports individually.
