Searching for a customer

You can search for a customer when performing certain tasks. For example, when creating an opportunity for an existing customer, you can search for the customer for whom you want to create the opportunity.

About this task

You can search for a customer while performing the following tasks:

  • Create an Opportunity for an Existing Consumer Customer
  • Create a Quote for an Existing Business Customer
  • Create a Quote for an Existing Consumer Customer
  • Search for an Opportunity
  • Save an Opportunity Search
  • Search for a Quote
  • Save a Quote Search

You can search either for a business customer or a consumer customer using the customer search. To search for a customer:

Procedure

  1. Click the Search icon adjacent to the Customer ID field or the Existing Customer box.
  2. The Customer Search dialog box is displayed. Perform the following tasks, as appropriate:
    • From the Enterprise drop-down list, select the appropriate enterprise. This drop-down list displays all the enterprises to which you have access.
      Note: This field is displayed only if you are searching for a customer without an enterprise in context.
    • Depending on the Customer Type you want to search for, select either the Business radio button or the Consumer radio button.
      Note: The Business radio button is displayed only if the enterprise supports business customers.
    • In the Customer ID Contains box, enter either the complete or the partial Customer ID of the customer. The Customer ID is the unique identifier of the customer. For example, if the Customer ID of the customer is abc234xyz, you can enter abc23 as the search criteria.
    • In the Company Starts With box, enter either the complete name of the customer's company or the initials of the company name.
    • In the E-mail Starts With box, enter either the complete e-mail address or the initials of the e-mail address of the customer.
    • In the Postal Code box, enter the postal code of the city in which the customer resides.
    • In the Day Phone box, enter the customer's day phone number.
      Note: The format for the phone number is based on your locale.
  3. Click Search.

    The Customer ID and Company of the customers matching the search criteria are displayed in the Search Results panel.
