Creating safety stock rules

You can create safety stock rule for maintaining sufficient safety stock. Additionally, you can also edit, delete, and duplicate safety stock rules.

Before you begin

  • Currently, a sync of nodes and catalog data between Sterling™ Order Management System and IBM® Sterling Intelligent Promising is not available. Therefore, ensure that your nodes and catalog data is populated in Sterling Intelligent Promising.
  • Load the nodes through IBM Sterling Intelligent Promising. For more information, see Configuring nodes.
  • Load the items through the catalog in IBM Sterling Intelligent Promising. For more information, see Catalog.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Order Hub.
  2. Click Inventory (Inventory icon that looks like 3 boxes stacked on top of each other beside a single box) and select Safety stock rules.
  3. Click Create rule.
  4. Complete the fields on the page.
    Field Description
    Rule name Enter the name of the safety stock rule. Rule name is a mandatory field but it is not a unique (key) identifier. The ruleId, which is the unique identifier of a rule is auto generated by create API.
    Rule description (optional) A brief description of the safety stock rule. This field is optional.
    Rule type You can create two types of safety stock rules:
    • Network rules - Network rules specify safety stock values at the item-network level and are used for availability queries that involves the entire network or a distribution group.
    • Node rules - Node rules specify safety stock values at the item-node level and are used for a single node availability.
    Rule You can configure the safety stock rule conditions by using the on and off dimensions.
    Conditions You can configure the safety stock rule conditions for network and node rules at the following levels. The condition drop-down options change based on the rule type selection.
    Note: A rule can contain one or more conditions; all conditions must be true if more than one condition is included. Select Add conditions to add more conditions. Click the minus (-) icon to remove a condition from the list.
    • Item ID or SKU (Available in both network and node type.)
      • Click Select... to open the item page and search the items in the Item ID list.
      • Select the Item ID checkbox to add the item in the safety stock rule.
      • You can review all the selected items in the Selected tab. Click the minus (-) icon to remove an item from the list.
      • Alternatively, click the upload icon to upload the item list in a CSV format. Click Save.
      • Review the final list and click Save in the Select item page.
    • Node (Available only in node type.)
      • Click Select... to open the nodes page. From the Enterprise list, select the enterprise within which you want to search for nodes.
      • Select the Node ID checkbox to add the node that you want to include in the safety stock rule.
      • You can review all the selected nodes in the Selected tab. Click the minus (-) icon to remove the node from the list.
      • Alternatively, click the upload icon to upload the node list in a CSV format. Click Save.
      • Review the final list and click Save in the Select nodes page.
    • Delivery method - Select the delivery method from the list. For example, shipping. (Available in both network and node rules.)
    • Catalog category. (Available in both network and node type.)
      • Click Select... to open the Select catalog category page.
      • Search for the catalog category or select the catalog category from the Available list. Select the catalog category checkbox to include it in the safety stock rule.
      • You can review the list of catalog category in the Selected tab. Click the minus (-) icon to remove the catalog category from the list.
      • Review the final list and click Save in the Select catalog category page.
    • Node type - Select the node type from the list. Select all node types that apply. (Available only in node type.)
      • DC
      • Store
      • Vendor
    • Distribution group - Select the distribution group items from the list. (Available only in network type.)
    Safety stock setting Enter the safety stock value that you want to assign. These settings are applied at the aggregated location level. You can set either a percent or fixed value.
    • Percentage of inventory - Enter a percentage of the inventory value that you want to set for the safety stock. You can either round up or round down the percentage value of the inventory. This feature is supported only for network rules.
    • Fixed value - Enter a fixed value that you want to set for the safety stock. This feature is supported for both node and network rules.
    Note: At least one value must be set.
    Schedule
    • Unrestricted - Select this option to assign safety stock rule for an unlimited time.
    • Specific dates - Select this option to select the start date, end date, and time.
      Note: Start and end times use Coordinated Universal Time time zone.
  5. Click Save to save the safety stock rule.
  6. If a similar rule is already in place, a Rule conflict found page is displayed. The Rule conflict found page displays the conditions of this rule that match an existing rule, as two active or two inactive rules cannot have the same conditions. Resolve the conflict in one of the following ways.
    • Continue editing - adding more conditions to remove the conflict.
    • Save this rule and turn off the conflicting rule if this rule is active or vice versa.
    • Discard this rule and open the conflicting rule.
  7. Choose the option that suits your requirement and click Continue to update the rule and save it.
